After the ruling, the Lovings were allowed to return to Virginia and live as a husband and wife.
In 1975, a drunk driver ran into them, killing Richard and injuring Mildred.
Before the Loving case, they couldn't live in Virginia together, but the court ruling changed this. Interracial couples could live in Virginia without the law separating them anymore.
